JW Networks, the brainchild of Sri Lankan motorsport enthusiast Jorgina Donna, has once again taken the lead in promoting inclusivity within the motorsport community by successfully organizing the first edition of ‘Speed on Wheels’ in early January. This pioneering initiative aimed at empowering both female and male bike enthusiasts aged 16 and above has been instrumental in unveiling opportunities for participants to embrace the sport and explore potential career paths within it.
While ‘Girls on Wheels’ has made history as the first-ever females-only motorsport awareness program in Sri Lanka, the event ‘Speed On Wheels’ went beyond gender boundaries, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity in traditionally male-dominated fields. By seamlessly blending the thrill of bike riding with a focus on road safety, the program offered a unique platform for all participants to not only learn and experience but also envision a future in the fast lane.
The event garnered attention and support from distinguished guests, including The Bike Federation President Shane Gunawardhane, Secretary Malinda Karangoda, and Assistant Secretary Mithun Segera. These esteemed individuals not only encouraged participants and organizers but also provided valuable insights and advice on how such events could grow and make an even greater impact in the country. Their presence underscored their admiration for JW Networks and Jorgina Wijewardana, acknowledging the ground-breaking nature of this initiative for all bike sport enthusiasts.
Held at the Pink Auto Green Yard in Kimbulawala, the awareness program featured various activities, including a captivating stunt performance by invited bike enthusiasts. Participants were reminded not to attempt these stunts on public roads, emphasizing the significance of safety. Qualified and approved stunt personalities showcased their skills, reinforcing the commitment to promoting safe motorsport practices.
Participant feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees praising the organizers for crafting a unique and insightful experience. The positive reviews underscored the need for more events of this nature, emphasizing the importance of broadening the audience and further raising awareness about opportunities in the world of motorsports. ‘Speed on Wheels’ was made possible with the support of sponsors, and the organizers express gratitude to their partners for contributing to the event’s success. Acknowledging their vital roles, sponsors included Link Natural Products as the Wellness Partner, Tilapiya Colombo as the Restaurant Partner, Elephant House – Ceylon Coldstores as the Beverage Partner, GOOD PR as the PR Partner, RSVP & CO as the Event Partner, Sri Lanka Greens as the Environmental Protection Partner, THE PINK Auto Shop as the Venue Partner, REDBULL as the Energizing Partner, Jorgys Stripping the Dipping as the Podcast Partner, Kuriosity as the Creative Partner, GAIJIN Digital as the Digital Partner, Jzstudio Production as the Animation Partner, and Eranga Ileperuma as the Official Videography Partner.
