JW Networks, an organisation founded by Sri Lankan motorsport enthusiast Jorgina Donna, continued to race ahead in its journey to educate Sri Lankan automobile enthusiasts about the world of motor racing by organizing ‘Road to Motorsport’ recently.
The goal of the event was to introduce Sri Lankans to the world of Formula One racing and provide insights into career paths in engineering and law within the Motorsport industry. Formula One or F1 racing flagged off in the year 1950 and is the highest class of international racing for single-seater formula racing cars. It is widely known to be the world’s most prestigious motor racing competition, and the world’s most popular annual sporting series. The Formula One World Championship typically runs from March to December in several countries across the globe.
‘Road to Motorsport’ was conducted by two highly-experienced individuals – Ramitha Edirisinghe and Malik Leigh – from the world of motor racing. Ramitha Edirisinghe is an aerothermal engineer at Williams Formula One team. During the event, he shared insights about his journey in Formula One and emphasized on the importance of perseverance, planning and seeking opportunities in pursuing a career in the challenging, fast-paced world of motorsport. Malik Leigh is an Attorney-at-Law from Watson and Leigh in the USA and therefore provided insights into the legal aspects of Motorsport and career opportunities in law within the industry. Both experts reiterated the significance of initiatives such as ‘Road to Motorsport’ in creating awareness and opening pathways for professionals in Sri Lanka who aspire to pursue a career in motorsport.
The interactive webinar format of the event allowed participants to ask various questions and engage with the two experts. By enabling successful fostering of dialogue and knowledge-sharing, they went home with invaluable lessons on the world of motorsport and what steps need to be taken individually in order to pursue their dream in the field.
JW Networks creates and distributes podcasts on Spotify and YouTube to thousands of followers globally. Jorgina Donna has put Sri Lanka on the map in the world of podcasts with her podcast “Jorgy’s Stripping The Dipping”, a motorsport podcast with two English hosts that has attracted some of the biggest names in international motorsport industry as guests.
From inception, JW Networks has demonstrated its firm commitment to fostering motorsport awareness in Sri Lanka and providing opportunities for aspiring professionals from all backgrounds. The company’s “Girls on Wheels” events were conceptualized to build a platform to promote inclusivity, equality and diversity in Sri Lanka. The events empower female motorsport enthusiasts of all ages by providing them with comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in the world of racing, covering both theoretical and practical aspects of karting.
