About Sevalanka Foundation
Sevalanka Foundation is dedicated to uplifting vulnerable and disadvantaged communities in Sri Lanka, aiming for an economically viable, socially just, and ecologically sustainable nation. Established in 1992, Sevalanka operates across 22 districts, partnering with major agencies like the World Bank and the United Nations, with significant funding from countries such as the USA, UK, Germany, Japan, and Norway.
Sevalanka’s work includes poverty alleviation, infrastructure development, food security, agriculture and fisheries support, psychosocial support, cultural preservation, microcredit, and social enterprise development. Notably, it played a crucial role in resettling 200,000 internally displaced families post-civil war.
With Sri Lanka’s shift to middle-income status in 2012, Sevalanka has adapted by engaging non-traditional partners, including the private sector and international social funds. Its 2022-2026 strategic plan, supported by USAID, focuses on expanding microfinance through Sewa Community Credit and developing initiatives in agriculture, fisheries, and eco-tourism, integrating comprehensive services to ensure sustainable development and economic empowerment.
