Miss Universe Tamil Sri Lanka 2023 broke new ground by hosting a beauty pageant for Tamil women with Nivethika Rasaiah of Vavuniya winning the coveted title at a glittering ceremony held at the Colombo-Marina Beach Hotel recently.
With over a hundred enthusiastic participants from around the nation, Miss Universe Tamil Sri Lanka had its preliminary rounds in Batticaloa, second round in Vavuniya, third round in Jaffna, and its Semi-final and Final rounds in Colombo at the Marina Beach Hotel and the Global Tower Hotel. Aishwarya Yogaraja of Matale was adjudged the 1st Runner-up while Vidursha Chandrasekhar of Colombo was picked as the 2nd Runner-up.
During the course of the event, 120 young aspiring women from the districts of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaithivu, Vavuniya, Kegalle, Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Colombo, and Gampaha, were chosen for the first round, from which 30 contestants were chosen for the second round. From these 30 women, 15 were given the opportunity to participate in a series of training sessions conducted by leading professionals in the field and subsequently moved on to the Final Round. Several mini pageant titles were awarded to the 15 finalists. These included Miss Top Model, Miss Popularity, Miss Talent, Miss Top Hair, Miss Best Skin, Miss Best Congeniality, Miss Fitness, Miss Personality, and Miss Photogenic. The Final was judged by an expert panel comprising Mrs. Divya Sujen, Mrs. Sharmila Dharmendra, Mrs. Anusha Rajmohan, and Mrs. Priya Shankar.
Expressing his views about the success of the event, Karan Kailayar – Founder of the event organizer Can Lanka (Pvt) Ltd stated, “We are happy and proud to conclude a very successful Miss Universe Tamil Sri Lanka 2023. We witnessed a lot of excitement from the hundreds of participants from all over the island. The event received enthusiastic support from the large audiences present at each round and especially the Final. The success of the event was due to the wonderful support and great teamwork by all parties involved including Vice President Akila Baskaran, Event Director W.Vijendran, National Director Maan Vizhi and Choreographer Tymeron Carvalho. The event was interestingly hosted by Prasanna Padmanathan in Tamil and Gamya Wijayadasa in English.”
